As an Ordained Minister I have a Passion for God, Truth; for People (“Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” – John 18:37). A Sr. Minister whom I worked under once said to me, “CD, whatever you do: don’t lose your love for life and your love for people.” As a proud Wesleyan I am not only a follower of Jesus Christ but a follower of John Wesley, who made it his mission to give ‘Plain truth to plain folk’. Sophistry or Academia is not my aim but Evangelism and Apologetics: lifting up the Name of Jesus Christ and turning hearts and minds toward him, towards ‘Good News’/Gospel. The Mission Statement of my Church puts it so well: 1) Lead them to Jesus. 2) Disciple them in Faith. 3) And Help those in Need (The Woodlands United Methodist Church; the Woodlands/Spring, Texas; 77380). Having said that, I take scholarship very seriously, since it cannot but involve ‘truth’, arriving at truth or getting to it/seeking after it. Therefore, being slip-shod or sloppy in regards to truth is not an option. Towards this end, as Wesley, who sought to be a “homo unia libra”, a ‘man of one book’, the Bible, I am likewise a follower of Karl Barth. If we are to have knowledge of God we must go to His Book, the Bible, where He has revealed himself. Otherwise it is as if we were to seek to know a person without knowing about anything that that person has ever said or spoken. We are not at all dealing with that actual person but the object of our own speculation or ideas. God has spoken in His Book, the Bible(“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures foever.” – Isa. 40:8). If we would have knowledge of ‘Him’ we must seek Him there, where he has spoken. I am a follower as well of GK Chesterton, brilliant, witty, English writer and Journalist, Apologist, Defender, of the Faith, who likewise turned the hearts and minds of others of his day back towards Jesus Christ, towards the ‘Gospel’ – CS Lewis among others. I am a follower of Carl Jung for his insights into the Collective/Spiritual unconscious and its symbols. I am a follower of American philosopher CS Peirce for his tripartic metaphysic, his understanding of symbols; and his pragmatism(which first influenced the better-known thought of his colleague William James). Peirce is said to be the first modern philosopher of science. (ARISBE is a Web-Site devoted to Peircian ideas and essays; it is a Renaissance, of sorts, to which I am a frequents visitor; we have a Facebook Reading Group which seeks to review these many works.) In my writing, my Blogs and Vlogs, are each and all of these great men and their ideas. Especially, and above all, I am a follower of Jesus Christ.
